The most important start to improving your profile picture is to check if you are a grey face?

There are hundreds of thousands of you out there right now who are doing your utmost to get yourselves in front of your ideal buyer and without your knowledge you’re are being hindered by your profile pictures visibility.

Your LinkedIn profile picture has 4 visibility options

  • Your Connections
  • Your Network (LinkedIn members connected up to 3 degrees away from you)
  • All LinkedIn Members
  • Public (every on LinkedIn and visible via search engines etc)

If you are on LinkedIn to generate business, which the vast majority of you are, then removing the personal touch of a prospect being able to see your face almost defeats the object of being on LinkedIn for generating business.

How to fix the grey profile picture

  1. Go to your own LinkedIn profile
  2. Click the settings cog
  3. Click the “Privacy” tab
  4. Scroll down and click “public

Now you have fixed your profile picture to be visible across LinkedIn, it’s important to help it stand out. Check out the below video guide on exactly what to do.

Video Subtitles – Below

00:00:00.200 –> 00:00:02.899
I’m Antony Bonney of
inSurge Unlocked. Today

00:00:02.899 –> 00:00:04.700
we’re going to be talking
about your profile picture

00:00:04.700 –> 00:00:07.400
and some settings that could
be killing you on LinkedIn.

00:00:07.400 –> 00:00:11.099
Welcome to Workshop Wednesday.

00:00:20.399 –> 00:00:23.199
So on this week’s Workshop Wednesday,

00:00:23.199 –> 00:00:26.399
we’re going to be talking about your
profile picture and the settings.

00:00:26.399 –> 00:00:30.199
So before I want to go too heavily
into your profile picture

00:00:30.199 –> 00:00:32.399
and the visuals of it and what it looks like.

00:00:32.399 –> 00:00:35.000
We need to make sure you can be seen.

00:00:35.000 –> 00:00:40.399
What do I mean by that? Well what I
mean by that is, this THE GREY FACE.

00:00:40.399 –> 00:00:43.700
So on LinkedIn at the
moment, there are thousands

00:00:43.700 –> 00:00:48.000
and hundreds of thousands of people
who aren’t in my network that

00:00:48.000 –> 00:00:50.000
when I view them and
when I’m looking at them,

00:00:50.000 –> 00:00:53.399
that’s what I see. Why are
why am I seeing this?

00:00:53.399 –> 00:00:58.899
Well previously on LinkedIn
one of the default settings
was that your profile picture

00:00:58.899 –> 00:01:03.799
is hidden to anybody who’s
outside of your first connections.

00:01:03.799 –> 00:01:09.400
Now, that means that doesn’t matter how good
your profile is if you’re not physically

00:01:09.400 –> 00:01:12.200
connected with someone then
they’re not going to see your face.

00:01:12.200 –> 00:01:18.599
So just for example, I have 2 marketers here
Shannon and Ben who have got good profiles,

00:01:18.599 –> 00:01:23.000
but for anybody who’s not currently
connected with them or maybe
looking to do business with them.

00:01:23.000 –> 00:01:28.099
You cannot see their face.

00:01:28.099 –> 00:01:31.900
The whole of LinkedIn at the moment is
all talking about content and value

00:01:31.900 –> 00:01:35.799
putting out relevant content that’s
going to be engaging with your audience.

00:01:35.799 –> 00:01:39.799
So the importance of this
I completely agree with

00:01:39.799 –> 00:01:41.700
but if you’re going to spend time effort

00:01:41.700 –> 00:01:46.900
and money putting content together
to try and generate yourself
business and sales through Linkedin,

00:01:46.900 –> 00:01:50.900
then you want to make sure that it’s not
just your network that small amount of

00:01:50.900 –> 00:01:53.500
people that can see it the
whole point of this is that

00:01:53.500 –> 00:01:56.299
when they like and comment
your firsts they like

00:01:56.299 –> 00:01:59.099
and comment and share your
content that other people outside

00:01:59.099 –> 00:02:01.400
your network that your
reach is getting out there

00:02:01.400 –> 00:02:05.700
that they can see it that they can
comment on it that they feel engaged,

00:02:05.700 –> 00:02:09.000
they’re not going to feel engaged
if they can see a GREY FACE.

00:02:09.000 –> 00:02:12.199
So just for example here this

00:02:12.199 –> 00:02:17.199
is so much more prominent than people
would believe this is one post from a

00:02:17.199 –> 00:02:21.300
couple of days ago where the
author is not one of my connection

00:02:21.300 –> 00:02:22.800
so I can’t see his picture.

00:02:22.800 –> 00:02:25.000
Not only that but look one two,

00:02:25.000 –> 00:02:28.099
three, four five five GREY FACES.

00:02:28.099 –> 00:02:32.699
All people who have got
their privacy setting set

00:02:32.699 –> 00:02:34.500
where you can’t see their profile picture.

00:02:34.500 –> 00:02:40.099
So for Simon is post his content we’ve
says to sell or not to sell on LinkedIn.

00:02:40.099 –> 00:02:45.000
That is the question. What are
your thoughts if I was going to
comment on this my thoughts?

00:02:45.000 –> 00:02:47.400
Don’t be a GREY FACE.

00:02:47.400 –> 00:02:50.800
So how do you fix this?
Let’s talk about on a mobile.

00:02:50.800 –> 00:02:54.900
So on a mobile phone go to your profile on
your profile the top right hand corner.

00:02:54.900 –> 00:02:56.900
There’s a cog click on that Cog

00:02:56.900 –> 00:03:01.800
and it will take you to a menu and the
second tab says privacy on that privacy tab,

00:03:01.800 –> 00:03:03.800
it lets you edit your public profile

00:03:03.800 –> 00:03:07.300
so that third of the way down the
screen there are four options

00:03:07.300 –> 00:03:09.900
your prop your profiles public visibility.

00:03:09.900 –> 00:03:12.199
So your connections your network

00:03:12.199 –> 00:03:18.000
or LinkedIn members and public we’re
talking here about you generating
business from LinkedIn.

00:03:18.000 –> 00:03:21.599
So you want to be making sure that
every opportunity to sell to a

00:03:21.599 –> 00:03:23.400
potential customer you’ll take an advantage

00:03:23.400 –> 00:03:28.099
of, so my advice is make it public.
While we’re talking about settings

00:03:28.099 –> 00:03:29.500
let’s talk about your LinkedIn

00:03:29.500 –> 00:03:35.400
URL. So that is the web address
that is a link to get directly
to your LinkedIn profile.

00:03:35.400 –> 00:03:38.800
Now the standard one we all
know looks a bit crappy.

00:03:38.800 –> 00:03:42.800
It’s just a lot of letters and numbers and
doesn’t represent you or your business.

00:03:42.800 –> 00:03:47.099
So the great thing about this though
is you can actually edit this yourself.

00:03:47.099 –> 00:03:52.500
So right at the top of the screen
that we’ve just spoke about on
your editing your public profile.

00:03:52.500 –> 00:03:55.099
The very first thing says
edit your custom URL.

00:03:55.099 –> 00:04:03.199
So your url right at the end
after can
remove all those letters

00:04:03.199 –> 00:04:05.800
and numbers and add in pretty
much whatever you want

00:04:05.800 –> 00:04:10.300
as long as it hasn’t already been
taken by somebody else you can use it.

00:04:10.300 –> 00:04:13.099
So mine just says Abonney
I’ve just used my name.

00:04:13.099 –> 00:04:16.399
So anywhere you want to put it

00:04:16.399 –> 00:04:18.199
whether it be on marketing
material or in the bottom of your

00:04:18.199 –> 00:04:20.600
emails anything like
that your business cards.

00:04:20.600 –> 00:04:22.699
It’s going to look a lot better.

00:04:22.699 –> 00:04:28.000
So there’s already lots of information
out there about how to do a
great LinkedIn profile image.

00:04:28.000 –> 00:04:31.100
Don’t really want to go into that. What I
would say is ask yourself one question.

00:04:31.100 –> 00:04:34.000
If your customer landed on your
profile, would you be happy that

00:04:34.000 –> 00:04:36.100
being that picture being
a representation of you?

00:04:36.100 –> 00:04:39.300
If so fantastic. What I’d rather
do is give you some actionable

00:04:39.300 –> 00:04:41.199
things to make you stand
out a little bit more.

00:04:41.199 –> 00:04:44.800
So couple of bits one firstly you
can put your picture in an outline

00:04:44.800 –> 00:04:47.399
really really simple to do. Another one

00:04:47.399 –> 00:04:48.699
you could add some imagery

00:04:48.699 –> 00:04:55.399
or a logo to make yourself actually stand
out now just as examples of this on here.

00:04:55.399 –> 00:04:59.899
Don’t be a great face. You can
see that the outline does make a

00:04:59.899 –> 00:05:01.899
difference rather than just
within the white background.

00:05:01.899 –> 00:05:05.899
It makes it stand out and secondly
here with the logos instantly.

00:05:05.899 –> 00:05:09.100
You can see that the two people
on this are from the same company

00:05:09.100 –> 00:05:12.800
because they’ve got a similar
logo with in that picture Okay.

00:05:12.800 –> 00:05:17.000
So Workshop Wednesday’s are all
about giving you actionable
information that you can go away

00:05:17.000 –> 00:05:18.199
and Implement yourself.

00:05:18.199 –> 00:05:21.100
So this week I will be
giving away another guide

00:05:21.100 –> 00:05:22.899
and template that you can go

00:05:22.899 –> 00:05:28.000
and go and build your own
outline and put your own imagery
using the free software again.

00:05:28.000 –> 00:05:37.100
So comment below follow me on

and remember don’t be a GREY FACE.
